Both Deceased Students Identified in the Ivy League School Incident as Authorities Press On With Hunt for Killer.

The pair of scholars who lost their lives in Saturday’s mass shooting in Providence were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their assailant carried on following the discharge by local law enforcement of the only individual questioned in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was called “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, according to the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which honored her memory at a gathering on Sunday.

Her role included vice-president of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, the group said. The White House press secretary also posted sympathies online, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Remembering her family and friends, above all her mom and dad.”

An International Student

The second fatality was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the prestigious university, family members said.

Umurzokov’s identity was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” his sibling Samira said in a tribute.

The Shooting Incident

Nine more persons were injured in the weekend shooting in the engineering department of Brown’s university in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Law enforcement reported late Sunday that a 24-year-man arrested in a raid at a hotel about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“A perpetrator remains free,” said Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you have to regroup and go in another, and that is the current situation over the last approximately one day.”

Public Fear

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “It is expected to provoke fresh anxiety for our public”.

The gunman began shooting inside a room in the building on Saturday afternoon, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a handgun, a law enforcement official informed the Associated Press.

Police that entered the inn recovered two firearms and two ammunition clips when the person of interest was arrested, as was reported.

Those Hurt

Among those wounded, one student was allowed to go home, said the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in serious yet stable state, and another was critically ill, officials reported on Sunday.

A private school, a independent school in the city of Durham, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

Further Tributes

Cook was honored at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only during her upbringing... but at the university she was a radiant presence in that particular place as well.”

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the organization. “Ella was recognized for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she worked for her branch and other students,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a message. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to Mr Umurzokov’s family, companions, and fellow students and grieve for of his potential.”
