Followers Urge Detainment of Individual Who Touched Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the actress are urging that a man who leaped a barrier and seized the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or expelled from Singapore.
A viral video shows the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past photographers and rushing toward Grande while the cast made its way down a promenade flanked by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being taken in", though official papers revealed that he was set to appear on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
History of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram profile contains clips of him disrupting other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney show in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last winter.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," stated an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user remarked.
Followers Express Concern Over Ariana's Safety
Numerous supporters blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed experiencing PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote another comment on Instagram.
A number of attendees also criticised guards at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while some requested digital services to ban Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande looked shocked when she was grabbed by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
