Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
