Nearly 25,000 homes in south-east Queensland were left without power on the start of the week after powerful weather events impacted the state, generating wind gusts hitting 109km/h.
Large Ice Stones and Widespread Impact
Homeowners reported large ice chunks measuring up to 7cm in some areas. Weather authorities verified that different parts across the state had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

Response teams were focused on reestablishing electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units activated to manage the extensive power failures.
Victorian Climate Difficulties
At the same time, around one thousand households in the southern state also faced electricity disruptions after Melbourne saw its most precipitation in 18 months.
State Emergency Services handled 598 calls for help across the region, mainly for property damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

- The Werribee area - saw substantial destruction
- Hoppers Crossing - various assistance requests
- Wyndham region - 179 emergency requests
During the peak on Sunday, over 28,000 power users in Victoria were lacking electricity.
Meteorological Predictions
Damp conditions were expected to linger along much of eastern Queensland this next several days as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.
Tomorrow was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with continued thunderstorm potential predicted across various areas of both states.
Safety Concern
Health officials alerted that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, especially given the existing atmospheric conditions.
This caution comes after previous incidents where analogous circumstances led to major medical consequences in the state.
