New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

The coach did not know when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

New York police shared surveillance images earlier this week of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries according to reports.

The attack took place just after 2am on Sunday morning near MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was admitted to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse just had a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as a free agent in spring and was projected as an important component of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. His commitment is total. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He signed with Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with New York in March.
