This winter transfer window is typically a period of feverish rumour and possible big-money deals. Several high-profile stars find themselves linked with transfers out of their current clubs. We examine some of the top figures who might be on the move in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' failure to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, which has left the player in contention, reports suggest a major move is imminent. The Bournemouth attacker has a deal featuring a £65 million release clause active for a two-week period at the start of the month. Latest reports point to Manchester City look to have won the race for his services. Former suitors such as Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have turned their attention to alternative options, potentially opening the door for clubs such as Manchester United or Liverpool to make a last-minute move.

M. Guéhi

This English centre-back has continued to excel for Palace despite a summer transfer to Anfield collapsing. As his contract due to expire in the close season, this represents the London club's last opportunity to secure a transfer fee for their captain. A host of elite clubs, including Manchester City and multiple European giants like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly hold an interest. However, a winter exit is considered unlikely, especially given the coach's reliance on the player.

Brennan Johnson

This Wales forward has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at Tottenham this campaign. Despite being the side's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, Johnson has started only a small number of Premier League matches. Reports suggest the North London outfit would be open to a sale for the correct price, thought to be in the region of forty million pounds. Bournemouth appear to be at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford additionally showing an interest.

R. Neves

The Portugal midfielder could be poised for a comeback to the Premier League following a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Now just 28, and with his contract expiring in the summer, he is a potential bargain. Clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool are connected to the player. Furthermore, there have been suggestions from Spain that he would be willing to take a reduced salary for a move to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

The veteran German goalkeeper finds himself as third-choice at Barça under the manager Flick. After fallen out of favour and had surgery, a winter departure looks highly probable. Villa were initially mentioned as a potential destination, but that move currently seems off. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be showing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

This proven English striker has continued scoring frequently in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League might enhance his fading chances of making the England World Cup. However, arranging a deal presents significant challenges. Al-Ahli are reluctant to sell him, and his alleged enormous salary render any move difficult. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been mentioned as admirers.

Conor Gallagher

The dynamic midfielder attracted widespread attention in the off-season but remained at Atlético. With limited starts in Spain this season, he is eager to secure more playing time ahead of the World Cup. Despite starring and winning player of the tournament at the U21 Euros last summer, this young player has found it tough for minutes during his loan spell at Villa. The manager has stated the loan move won't be made permanent. Because of specific rules about playing for multiple teams in a season, a move back to his parent club before next summer seems to be the only viable outcome.

Kenan Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkey attacker is in excellent form for Juventus this season. As his current contract nearing its end, many English sides – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the developments. Juventus are eager to secure the youngster to a new long-term agreement but face a race to keep one of the continent's most promising young talents.

Kees Smit

The much-admired Netherlands teenage midfielder has earned parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. After impressing at the U19 Euros, Smit has broken into the AZ Alkmaar side. This 19-year-old is heavily tipped to complete a major move in January. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but are facing stiff rivalry from Real Madrid for a deal priced at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
