The Details Known About the Fatalities of the Bondi Terrorist Incident

No fewer than 16 people were killed and more than 40 sustained injuries when assailants shot at a Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach, an incident local authorities have labeled a terrorist attack.

As of the newest reports, authorities have stated the death toll stands at 16, encompassing one of the suspected gunmen. Additionally, 42 wounded individuals were admitted to medical facilities.

The deceased are still awaiting officially identified, but authorities state their ages are from 10 and 87 years of age.

Listed are the individuals who have been identified so far.

Eli Schlanger

London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.

Known as a father-of-five, he worked as the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and friends described him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very warm outgoing person who loved to help people”.

“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a relative asked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their newest son in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.

She described the events before the attack, explaining they were standing when the gunfire erupted. “He pushed his body up because he wanted to stay near me,” she said.

The couple were both Holocaust survivors, having faced immense hardship in their childhood. They had subsequently relocated to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

French authorities have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.

In a statement, a senior official said that France shared the grief of his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This despicable act is a new, tragic manifestation of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must eradicate,” the message continued.

One Child

A child who was taken to the a children's hospital is among those who had died, police have confirmed.

One Israeli Citizen

One victim from Israel was a fatality during the attack, according to multiple sources citing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people transported to hospital, many remain receiving treatment, with several in a critical state. Those hurt comprise two officers who responded to the attack.

A wounded man is a member of the public who attempted to intervene to confront one of the attackers. Hailed as a local hero, he received bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Sources state he was wounded and underwent treatment in hospital.

He wrote, he recounted the scene as an “horrific scene,” but also noted the response of those who rushed to help. He said he believed it was a “miracle” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the attack. He told reporters he listened to “dozens and dozens” of gunshots.

“I thought it was something less lethal, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I was hit. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
