The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features several notable adjustments:
- Every squad has only 8 real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Actions performed by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives more options for players looking for alternative methods to enjoy the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.
Player Reactions: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and someone else lists everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes due to the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. So this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
